sounds in a clip from eastenders

Sounds

There are a variety of sounds used throughout the clip. For example:

  • Theme tune/music at the start and end of the clip - The music is used to represents the drama and help recognize the show.
  • Heathy breathing - Used to show anger in the conversation and the tension between the characters.
  • keys banging together and coat rustling - Makes the character seem to be moving very rushed and heavy handed.
  • door bursting open - shows a forceful and angry reaction.
  • footsteps - seem to be used when leading to a important moment

There are four types of sounds:

  1. non - diegetic: any sounds in the story line, on scene or off
  2. diegetic: sounds or sound effects put in the story line to create a certain effect or mood
  3. synchronous: happens on scene
  4. asynchronous: happens off scene
From this clip I have used there was only one sound that was non - diegetic and asynchronous. This sound was the theme tune used at the start and end. However there was many sounds used that are diegetic and synchronous. For example: keys banging together and coat rustling, heathy breathing, door bursting open and footsteps, these sounds where all used within the story line.

mise - en - scene - scenery

  • The christmas tree and decorations show that it is either christmas day or near the christmas date.
  • Suits worn by the men and dressy clothing worn by the women shows that they are having a party and it is in fact christmas day.
  • Only the two characters (katt & derek) in the front room at the start show that there is tension during the party and is further shown through the clip when people are standing around watching. This also shows that the night has been ruined by this argument/conversation.
  • Being dark outside shows that it is late at night during this scene.
  • The buildings being the same and having a gated garden in the centre shows that its a small area/community/square.

  1. You have done well at analysing this clip - next time you could add your initial thoughts to the review. I also think you have done well in the mise-en-scene section because you've gone into good detail :)
