shot types from eastenders clip

shots
At the start of the clip a master shot is used to show where the action will happen. For example in this clip its in the front room. This shot shows the objects in the scene and limits the amount of action you can see.

Not long after over the shoulder shots are used when in conversation. This shows each person speaking and then the others reaction, keeps the conversation flowing. Over the shoulder shot is used to make it seem scene less, this is because both people are kept on the same side each shot(continuity).

During another conversation later on there are more people involved. Therefore a shot reverse shot is used from each character as they speak, this also shows each person speaking and their reaction. This makes the viewer focus on everyones different reactions.

A medium close up is used on a character(max). From this shot it shows the chest to the face, we can see how he reacts to the conversation he is having. However a medium close up doesn't reveal too much as it is leading you up to the important moment.

The establishing shot is used as the scene has changed from being inside the house to outside. This shot is used to establish where further action will happen.

Towards the end of the clip a long shot is used, this shows the whole of the body from head to toe. From this shot we can tell where the character/characters are. For example the characters in this long shot are outside the house.

A close up is then used to show more about the character than the area they are in. From this you learn the characters reaction to what is happening and can relate to how they are feeling from their facial expression.

At the most important part of the clip a extreme close up is used to highlight this specific moment. The other shots used before this have lead you up to this emotional reaction which then creates a bigger impact. This shot allows us to see the close up detail in the reaction of the face.
