regional identity

The regional identity of a video clip is what you can learn from the people and the scenery that tells you where the clip is set, what region it is in and what region the people are from.

For example:

  • The accent of the local people is different to Doc Martins and they use different types of language. Such as: "bogmin". From this it shows that they are from different regions. Also the way the words are spoken are different to they way Doc Martin would speak, as you can see when he asks dad to use a noun when he says "happens".
  • Doc martin being in a suit implies that he is from the city as everyone else is dressed in farm/village clothing. Therefore we learn from the clothing that the region is the country side. Another reason for believing the clip is set in the country is when the water pipe bursts Doc Martin is stressed about what to do, which is how people from the city are portrayed and dad is relaxed, still eating his sandwich and country people are seen to be relaxed.
